The Challenge

This client came to us through a referral from The Toy Coach with an idea to create a game that builds emotional regulation skills in young children, skills crucial to navigating relationships and moving through the world. The client was seeking assistance with refining the game concept and production. They wanted to create a collaborative game that incorporated physical representations of emotions and opportunities for kids to identify and process an array of feelings.

• The original game concept had shifted from an older audience to younger children, requiring gameplay, components, visual complexity, and safety compliance to be reconsidered for young players

• The core idea had been playtested but needed cleaner rules, consistent terminology, and guidance on board layout and visual complexity so the game would be intuitive and engaging for young children and adults alike

​

• The client also needed guidance translating the concept into a manufacturable product, including component decisions, sourcing, and preparing the game for production

​

The Solution

Through brainstorming, iterative prototyping, and playtesting, the concept developed into a board game featuring emotion cards that balances simple gameplay, an innovative emotional-learning game mechanic, and visually engaging presentation.
